The Neath Town Centre Regeneration Project was launched to the public during the month of November and a dedicated website www.ntcproject.com is available giving interested parties the opportunity to learn more about the plans for the regeneration of Neath town centre and feedback their views. There are five strands to the consultation including scheme layout, streets and public spaces, transport and movement, identity and scheme delivery.
A public exhibition is also being held on Friday 9 th and Saturday 10 th January 2009 at the Neath Civic Centre. Opening times are 11.00 am - 8.00 pm on Friday 9 th and 10.00 am - 4.00 pm on Saturday 10th. This is an opportunity for the public to meet the development team and Neath Port Talbot Council, who will be on hand to discuss the proposals in detail and answer any questions. Scheme plans and a model of the proposed development will also be on display.
The proposed scheme will see improved shopping provision and linkages between the area and the rest of the town centre with safe, lively, pedestrian friendly streets, a new Heritage Centre to include a public library, a safe and secure multi-deck car park, new homes including affordable housing and a public square with cafes, seating and landscaping.
Mark Newton, Simons Developments Director comments: "So far, the response to our initial proposals have been very positive and there is clearly a lot of enthusiasm in Neath for our proposed plans, which will increase the vibrancy of the town centre.
"The importance of ensuring the development benefits the whole town centre has been emphasized and we are strongly committed to this principle. We have also received very useful feedback on a number of scheme details and all comments will be fed back into ongoing design discussions. We are looking forward to being able to meet with members of the public in early January at the public exhibition and receiving further feedback."
Neath Port Talbot Council Leader Derek Vaughan said: "I would encourage everyone to take a look at the proposals. They are on display throughout the county borough and people can respond either by e mail or form. The council would welcome people's views so that we can make sure our proposals really meet the needs of the town."
A consultation feedback report will be published on www.ntcproject.com in due course after the consultation closing date of 19 th January 2009.
